Makeup Geek (MUG) Eyeshadow Collection

Hey guys, since I've been doing a lot of looks using the Makeup Geek (MUG) eyeshadows I thought I'd do a review with swatches on my full collection.

Top, left to right; Cocoa Bear, Neptune, Simply Marlena, Burlesque, Showtime, Houdini, Latte, Peacock, Wisteria, Mango Tango, Bitten, Mesmerized, Flame Thrower, Preppy, Dirty Martini, Cupcake, Corrupt, Country Girl, Grandstand, Starry Eyed

Regular shadows: 1.5g $5.99
Foiled shadows: 1.8g $9.99
Pigments: 1.4g $8.99

Colourful
Left to right; Cupcake, Wisteria, Simply Marlena, Dirty Martini, Neptune, Peacock, Mango Tango, Razzleberry

Cupcake: A soft muted pink, ideal for blending pinks, blacks, blues and purples, on light to medium skin tones.

Wisteria: This is a matte pinkish lilac with a soft texture and good pigmentation. Also a good blending colour.

Simply Marlena: A matte hot pink. This shadow has a very gritty texture, but does not affect the pigmentation or application. Can be used all over the lid or to deepen the crease.

Dirty Martini: A matte army green with good pigmentation and smooth texture. This is a good colour for a subtle smokey look or a blending colour for a darker green.

Neptune: A vibrant matte blue with a soft texture and good pigmentation. Best used on the lower lash line for a pop of colour.

Peacock: This is a matte teal colour, yet again with a smooth texture a good pigmentation.

Mango Tango: This is a peach colour with a subtle shimmer. The pigmentation isn't very good and requires some building. It also has a very gritty texture. But a beautiful colour nonetheless.

Razzleberry: Not your every day colour but a beautiful one. It is a bright pinkish red with gold glitter. This is another dry and gritty shadow, but has a good colour pay off.

Neutrals
Left to right; Preppy, Latte, Cocoa Bear, Country Girl, Bitten, Burlesque, Corrupt

Preppy: A smooth mustard-ish matte brown with a hint of green.  I personally use this only as a blending colour.

Latte: This is by far the smoothest eyeshadow I own! Not sure why the formula on this colour is so different, but I'm very impressed. It is a matte medium red toned brown.

Cocoa Bear: A very popular red toned matte brown. Smooth texture with very good colour pay off.

Country Girl: A slightly gritty textured light muted brownish pink, with subtle shimmer. Love this colour for my skin tone.

Bitten: This is a matte burgundy, with a smooth texture. I find this colour to be a bit patchy and requires a bit of blending. But love the colour.

Burlesque: A shimmery version of Bitten, with tiny flecks of silver glitter. Smooth texture and good pigmentation.

Corrupt: A very intense matte black, with a gritty texture. However, the grittiness does not effect the pigmentation or application.

Foiled Shadows
Left to right; Grandstand, Mesmerized, Showtime, Flame Thrower, Starry Eyed, Houdini

Grandstand: Looks like a muted gold in the pan but swatches metallic rose gold. A very pretty colour.

Mesmerized: My favourite out of the foiled shadows. It is a mauve colour with good pigmentation. Not as metallic as I had hoped.

Showtime: Is a very similar burgundy to Bitten and Burlesque, but with silver shimmer. The least metallic foiled shadow, just an average shimmery shadow to me. Also not as smooth as the rest.

Flame Thrower: A very copper-ish colour with a good metallic colour pay off on swatches, it doesn't appear as metallic on the eyelids.

Starry Eyed: Soft pinkish champagne. Has the best metallic finish of them all. Use it mostly on the inner corners.

Houdini: This is a teal forest green with silver glittery flecks. Once again not as metallic as I was hoping for it to be. Not as smooth as the lighter colours.

Pigments
Left to right; Insomnia, Liquid Gold, Utopia

Left to right; Insomnia, Liquid Gold, Utopia

Insomnia: Is good dupe for the MAC blue-brown pigment. It is a duo-chrome pigment, with a reddish brown undertone.

Liquid Gold: I believe this is very similar to a Sugarpill pigment. Very intense gold with a hint of green. A little does go a long way with this pigment.

Utopia: My favourite pigment! It has a unique texture, very light foiled flakes of antique gold. Can be worn wet or dry. If worn wet, I recommend using glitter glue to prevent flaking off once it dries.

My thoughts

MUG products like many other products have been overly hyped up on YouTube that you'd think these are some sort of magical products, descended from the heavens above and will perform miracles on your eyelids.
Unfortunately, these are not some "out of the world" products as they're being described, so be realistic with your expectations.

Now that this has been cleared...

I do like the MUG shadows very much. I find the shadows to be of very good quality (with a few exceptions) for the price. I am a little disappointed in the foiled shadows, but not a complete loss.

Would I buy MUG products again? Yes, I would, if I can find a way around the ridiculous amount of customs and handling charges we have to pay to receive it here in the UK.

Note: For reference purposes, the swatches are on my arm (MAC NC25-30), and pictures all taken in natural day light.

Milani Rose Blushes 2015

Milani has come out with three new Rose blushes in 2015, but this time with shimmers and sparkles. The regular Rose blushes are matte, which is what I usually prefer. However, when I came across these new ones on the Cocktail website I had to try them out.

From left to right: American Beauty Rose, Blossomtime Rose, Awakening Rose

Close-up look and swatches of the three colours in daylight

Awakening Rose:

This is the lightest shade, it is a mauve, cool tone blush with silver shimmer. The texture is the smoothest out of the three and is a flattering colour on my skin tone (MAC NC25-30). This is also the most versatile colour with most makeup looks. However, it may look ashy on those with dark medium to deep skin tones.

Blossomtime Rose:

This is a good enough dupe for the NARS Org; blush, with that very heavy warm/ gold sheen to it, but no sparkly bits. Like the NARS blush I don't personally find it very wearable. But I am aware that most people seem to love this sort of blushes. So if you're a fan of the NARS blush you will like this. This would be a flattering colour for any skin tone. As for the texture, I find it a little dry.

American Beauty Rose:

This would have to be my least favourite out of the three. It is a hot pink blush with very noticeable sparkly glitter bits that do transfer to the skin. It is difficult to buff out the sparkles without removing the colour.
The texture is very dry and chalky and requires a little building up for a good colour pay off, even though it is the darkest shade out of the three.

To conclude, I have to say I'm a little disappointed, as I had high expectations from all the positives reviews I've read about the matte collections. Having said all that, they are not bad for the price. I do like them, just not as good as I expected them to be. So I will be making use out of them.

Hope this was a helpful review.

Have fun shopping!

Purple Bridal Makeup

This is a cool tone purple bridal look, suitable for all skin tones.
To achieve this look you'll need;
  • Primer
  • Shimmer white eyeshadow
  • Matte purple (grape) eyeshadow
  • Matte black eyeshadow
  • Black eyeliner(gel/liquid, pencil)
  • Mascara
  • False lashes
Prime

As always apply a primer all over the lid to ensure longevity and colour pay off.

Lid
  • Using a shadow brush apply the purple shadow to the outer half of the lid.
  • With a clean blending brush (no additional eyeshadow) blend the purple shadow in to the crease, in a wind shield wiper motion. You may lose some of the shadow from all the blending, apply more shadow just to the out half of the lid.
  • Using a pencil brush take in very small amount of black shadow to the outer 1/3 of the crease, to deepen it and create dimension.
  • With whats left on the pencil brush (no additional product) blend in to the crease, almost drawing a line. Don't blend out, keep it defined.
  • Now on a flat shadow brush apply the white eyeshadow to the inner half of the lid, brow bone and tear duct area. When applying to the lid swipe it clean around the shape of the lid (up to the crease). When the white meets the deep colours in the crease area there should be a clean cut separation, which will give you that cut crease look.
  • Using a black or dark purple liner of your choice, draw on a winged liner.
Lower lash line
  • Take the purple eyeshadow on the pencil brush and apply to the lower lash line
  • Line the water line with a black or purple eyeliner.
Lashes

And of course apply mascara and false lashes :)

All done!

Thank you for stopping by guys. Enjoy creating this look.
